Refreshing Healthy Summer Drinks

1.Tequila Sunrise Margarita
Tequila Sunrise Margarita

Ingredients

Red colored sugar

lime wedge
3
cups Triple Sec or other orange liqueur
2
cups tequila
1 1/2
cups freshly squeezed lime juice
1
cup superfine sugar or powdered sugar
2
cups orange juice
Ice cubes
Grenadine syrup
orange slices (optional)
Directions
  1. Place sugar on a small plate. Rub rims of glasses with the lime wedge. Dip rims of glasses in sugar to coat; set aside.
  2. In a pitcher combine Triple Sec, tequila, lime juice, and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir in orange juice. Chill until ready to serve.
  3. Place ice cubes in sugar-rimmed glasses. Pour tequila mixture over ice cubes and add 2 dashes grenadine syrup to each glass. Garnish with orange slices, if desired.

    Directions
    1. Blend together ginger ale, grenadine, orange juice, and sherbet. Pour into ice-filled cocktail glasses. (To make a version with alcohol, add white rum.)

    • Ingredients

      small honeydew melon
      1
      seedless cucumber, thinly sliced

      lime, thinly sliced

      fresh mint leaves

      cup lime juice

      750 milliliter bottle Sauvignon blanc or other semi-dry white wine, chilled

      1 liter bottle carbonated water, chilled
      Fresh mint sprigs and/or leaves (optional)
      Directions
      1. Cut the melon in half; remove and discard seeds and rind. Cut melon into thin slices. In a large pitcher* combine melon, cucumber, lime slices, and the 12 mint leaves. In a small bowl stir together lime juice and honey until combined; pour over melon mixture. Add wine, stirring gently. Cover and chill for at least 2 hours.
      2. To serve, stir in carbonated water. Ladle or pour into glasses. If desired, garnish with additional mint.

      If a large pitcher will not fit into your refrigerator, divide the mixture in half and place in 2 smaller pitchers or covered containers.

      • Ingredients

        cups sliced peeled fresh peaches; unsweetened frozen peach slices, thawed; fresh or frozen unsweetenedstrawberries, thawed; fresh or frozen cubed mango, thawed; or cubed, seeded watermelon

        12 ounce can (3/4 cup) frozen limeade or lemonade concentrate, thawed

        cup (2 ounces) light rum or orange juice

        Fresh peach chunks, small fresh strawberries, mango cubes, or watermelon cubes (optional)
        Directions
        1. In a blender combine the 3 cups fruit, the limeade concentrate, rum, and powdered sugar. Cover and blend until smooth. With blender running, gradually add ice cubes through opening in lid until mixture is desired thickness. Serve in glasses. If desired, garnish daiquiris with fruit pieces threaded on wooden skewers.

        • Ingredients

          cup bourbon (2 oz.)
          1 1/2
          tablespoons lemon juice (3/4 oz.)

          teaspoons Blackberry-Rosemary Syrup
          1/3
          cup sparkling lemonade, chilled
          Fresh blackberries (optional)
          Directions
          1. In a cocktail shaker combine bourbon, lemon juice, Blackberry-Rosemary Syrup, and ice; shake until chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into an ice-filled glass. Top with sparkling lemonade. Garnish with 2 or 3 blackberries, if desired.

          You can also combine bourbon, lemon juice, and sparkling lemonade in an ice filled glass and stir gently. Pour Blackberry-Rosemary Syrup so the dramatic color swirls down into the glass.
          Big Batch:
          In a punch bowl combine 3 cups of the bourbon, 2/3 cup lemon juice, and one recipe of the Blackberry-Rosemary Syrup. Add 4 cups chilled sparkling lemonade. Garnish with frozen blackberries, if desired. Makes about 12 servings, each 5 oz.
