For all those who have a job interview coming up, here are top 10 tips to behave inside an interview hall. Follow them and you should have a good chance to cracking the interview.
- Greet interviewer/s in a confident manner- As soon as you enter the interview room, make sure you greet each interviewer with a smile and in a confident manner. However, do not offer to shake hand unless an interviewer initiates it.
- Lean slightly forward while sitting- While most experts suggest that you should sit straight during an interview, it is more beneficial if you lean forward slightly. Leaning forward shows you are relaxed and interested in the conversation which is about to take place.
- Keep your feet parallel- Crossed feet show a negative and nervous attitude. When you cross your feet, you are even perceived as a dishonest person. Make sure you keep your feet parallel and firm on the ground throughout the interview. Shaking your feet constantly is also a complete no-no since it shows impatience.
- Accept anything offered gracefully- Sometimes, an interviewer might offer you water or candy in order to gauge your receptive quotient. Accept what is offered gracefully to score brownie points.
- Let the interviewer complete the question- Listen more than you talk during an interview. Do not be in a rush to give your answers, as it shows you are looking to get this interview done with. Stay calm and start answering only after the employer has finished asking his question completely.
- Look them straight in the eye- When you speak to somebody while looking them in the eye, you are perceived as an honest person. Make sure you maintain eye contact during the interview.
- Observe the room but don’t look around- When you enter the interview room, make sure you give a quick glance to the entire room. Sometimes, interviewers ask mundane questions about your immediate environment to test your observation skills. However, while answering questions, make sure you do not gaze at the ceiling or at the sidewalls. It gives a very diffident impression of you.
- Don’t close your hands- While sitting in a chair, don’t close your hands in a fist. Rather, keep them at the sides of the chair. If the chair does not have arm rests, keep them on your lap in a nonchalant manner. Closed hands show a reserved attitude or dishonesty.
- Give crisp answers- Do not bore the interviewers with long answers that just go on and on. When asked a question, always give to the point answers.
- Don’t forget to say thank you- While leaving the room, do not forget to thank the interviewers for their support. It will get you some extra points.
