Soup Diet For Weight Loss

What is the Magic Soup diet all about?
We wanted to show how losing weight could be simple, delicious and something that would wake up our healthy lifestyle for good, rather than 'going on a diet' for a few weeks only to then return back to our old ways.
When you eat a really good bowl of soup, you feel good and you know you're being healthy too. So we thought why not reclaim the idea of the 'soup diet' but give readers a bit more than soggy cabbage! Why not give them chicken soup for the soul, comfort cauliflower and cinnamon squash? The idea is so simple: swap your boring old sandwiches for soup.
How can you make soup filling?
  • We often add protein, so chicken, salmon, crumbled feta or natural yoghurt
  • Beans are a great filling addition
  • We also add grains or noodles to quite a few of our soups
  • Nicole says to close your eyes and imaging everything you need nutritionally in a bowl, and then make soup!

How does soup make you lose weight?
It works in a few ways: soup has been shown to be more filling per calorie because of the water content. Soup has been shown by researchers to keep us full for longer per calorie compared with eating the same foods ‘dry’. It is because in a soup form the foods simply take up more room in the stomach, which turns off the appetite or ‘hungry’ hormone more quickly than a salad would.
Speaking of calories, even a big bowl of soup usually won't set you back more than 300 calories, so it's a great way to eat a little less without feeling like you are depriving yourself. It's a great way to cut down on refined carbohydrates like bread or pasta. Having soup makes you instantly feel more healthy, so you will tend to set up a positive cycle of eating well and also having more energy throughout the day
What gave you the idea for it?
When I was in Mauritius with a friend they told us about 'magic soup', which was really just a brilliant way to describe a simple vegetable soup, packed with goodness, that women would eat after having a baby. It would give them lots of nutrition while also helping them to gently get their figure back too.
They are an amazingly healthy island of people and I just loved the phrase 'magic soup', so it became the seed idea for our book, as well as the fact that it was soup that helped me personally lose 2 and a half stone a couple of years ago, and I haven't looked back. Nicole has a passion for creating 'bowls of goodness' - she used to cook for the homeless and would always think how she could get a whole day's nutrition into one bowl. Combine that with 'magic soup' and we thought we should go for it and write the book.
Why is soup nutritious? What about fibre?
Soup is packed with nutrients. Vegetable based soups are an excellent source of soluble fibre, while soups with grains like barley, brown rice and quinoa provide insoluble fibre, both of which are very helpful for healthy digestion.
Soups are naturally low in fat. It is easy to add good quality protein to soup, like chicken, salmon or tofu. Likewise you can easily add good carbohydrates to soup - these are the slow-releasing kinds like brown rice, oats, leafy vegetables and root vegetables.
the magic soup diet
How does it work and is it healthy?
We have included the Flat Tummy Club 10-point-plan at the beginning of the book which gives the reader all the information they need to eat healthily throughout the day. Then all they need to do is swap one of their meals, lunch or dinner, for a delicious soup (not out of a packet!).
It's very simple, but that makes it really easy to follow. I (Kate Adams) lost 7lbs in 7 days and so we say 'up to 7lbs in a week' because this depends on how much excess water you are carrying. On average a person might lose up to 3lbs of fat, so the rest would be water retention, which we release when we stop eating food that's not good for us and eat natural, whole foods and drink plenty of water and herbal tea. In terms of being healthy, the whole book is aimed to inspire readers to cook delicious healthy food, and after all, you can't put a pie in soup!

Would you advocate it as a long term weight loss plan?
We would advocate soup as part of a healthy long term weight loss plan because it changes your mindset about the way you eat, cook and live.
It is the perfect way to clean up your diet and also become adventurous with tastes and ingredients. As we answer these questions we are about to cook a new soup for lunch, 'lentil, lemon and sumac'. And if you are ever in the need for a health kick, then soup is the answer, especially in the colder months of the year.
We shock our systems with raw salad or juice detoxes, when our digestion needs warmth just as our our whole body does. Soup is much easier on the digestion and so much more likely to make a real, long-term difference.
Does it involve a lot of forward planning?
We like to think that if you incorporate the planning part into a healthy lifestyle then it's really enjoyable, finding the freshest vegetables, looking for interesting new spices to try. At the beginning it is best to whip up a big batch of soup on the weekend and then you only need to re-heat it.
Leftovers make wonderful soup, especially roast chicken or roast vegetable. And there are a few soups included in the book that need no planning, just a good store cupboard - for example you can make an 'instant' soup with miso paste, noodles, shallots, ginger, chilli and baby spinach.

Step by step MakeUp Procedure

Easy Makeup at Home

Step 1

Begin any makeup application with moisturized skin and conditioned lips (find a facial moisturizer and a lip balm you love and use them religiously). If you overdo it, simply blot the skin with tissue. Review your face -- do you need more concealer or foundation? Here, you see a hard edge of foundation, with the rest blended out. The true test of a color match comes when you start patting and blending it out.

Step 2

We put foundation over the eyelids; concealer under the eyes, and around the nostrils.

Step 3

We use powder to take away the shine but leave a healthy sheen -- just a bit on a large powder brush, swept around her entire face.

Step 4

Next: the "drop cloth" trick of depositing extra powder under the eyes to catch any eye makeup fallout.

Step 5

On to the eyes Aubergine shadow goes across the lid, from the lashline to slightly beyond the crease, where it fades away. I worked with a minimal amount of product on a large shadow brush. Just one shade of shadow -- that's it, for this look! Then a thin veil of powder sets and blends the edges. Note: As long as the shadow you use is a powder, you can go back and add more -- even after it's set with translucent powder -- to get to the level of intensity you want. Then dust with translucent powder again.

Step 6

We curl the lashes and apply mascara, top and bottom.

Step 7

Now the Eyebrows They get groomed into shape with a spoolie brush. Any thin areas? Those are filled in with a brow pencil (taupe here), using little feather-like strokes. Then brows are brushed through with the spoolie again to soften and blend. Finally a coat of brow gel keeps everything in place. Now that the eyes are done, brush away excess loose powder (applied in step #4) from under the eyes.

Step 8

To blush or not to blush? You could keep your face monochromatic and stop here -- then her look would be all about the eyes. But a bit of blush takes her to another place -- glowy, with a hint more shape. I apply a pink powder blush with a blush brush on apples of her cheeks, then dust cheeks with powder to blend all the edges.

Step 9

So far, everything is subtle and tonally related. To stay in that mode as we move on to the mouth, I chosse a soft lip colour. I also opt for less definition of the lipline and decide not to use a lip pencil. Our model looks great in a pinky beige lip color, applied with a lip brush. A dusting of powder sets everything. The effect -- a face that's just colorful enough, but natural. (Note: Natural doesn't need to mean neutral!) Before you are officially finished, review the face again. Do you need more blending? More color? When satisfied with your fabulous self, dust the entire face with the large powder brush -- for a matte finish, put a bit of powder on the brush; for a dewy finish, leave the brush bare.

One Step Beyond

Sometimes one simple change can transform a face. Here, a more intense lip color adds amazing impact. All I did was go over the existing mouth (the pinky beige lipstick applied in the last step) with a brandy lip pencil, creating a stronger, more define mouth. The entire lip gets outlined and filled in with the pencil. Then I go over the pencil with a lip brush to make sure the color is blended and evenly placed. For extra insurance, I add a dab of lipstick in a matching tone on top of the pencil -- just on the surface and in the center of the mouth. It add dimension to the color, and adds moisture, too. This one easy step takes you from day to evening, from casual to dressy, and from elegantly understated to intense!

How to Perform Well in Interviews

Great Tips To Make A Good Impression At Your Interview

Some of you will be graduating soon and probably busy applying for your first job. How well do you think you’ll perform at interview? It’s a difficult thing for anyone at any level, and we’ll try our best to guide you through some of the likely questions and situations you might find yourself having to deal with. As a veteran interviewee of more years than I care to mention, here’s some advice I wish I’d had access to when I first started out.

1. First impressions

The obvious one – first impressions count! You have no idea how true this is.  Ask any psychologist. You need to smile and make sure you have a firm handshake without breaking anyone’s bones. Eye contact is vital so keep your gaze just a few seconds longer than usual, without looking like a lunatic.

2. Questions and answers

Let the interview committee lead the interview but remember that you don’t have to wait until the end of the interview to ask questions. While they’re telling you all about the job and the company, questions from you at this point will emphasise your interest in the position. They may start with the question “Tell us about yourself and your experience, and why you think you would be the best candidate for the job”. This is where it helps to have your elevator speech handy as a brief introduction to who you are and what you can do. Give examples of your technical and transferable skills and show how these will help you with aspects of the job.  Prepare stuff to recite when prompted – you’ll find it a much easier process if you do this.

3. And again – your turn

Have questions ready to ask. It’s really important that you ask relevant questions about the job, the company, your prospects within the company… Show the panel that you’ve gone the extra mile and taken the time to find out that bit more about the company – it will definitely go in your favour. Sods Law dictates that they will answer your best question during the conversation, before you’ve had a chance to ask it, but don’t worry about this all through the interview.  It’s automatic to experience a feeling of dread at this point, when you think that you’re not going to have any killer questions to ask at the end.  But worrying about it only distracts you from the interview process, so if this happens, let it slide. Just remember to let the interview panel know that you were keen to ask a particular question, but they had already answered it earlier. It will also serve as a recap and you might be able to think of something else related to it on the spot.

4. Preparation

Before the interview (not the night before – do give this some thought) you should consider how you handle situations like interviews. A common question from an interviewer will be “What makes you nervous”? Have some idea of how you will answer this. They want to know how you handle stressful situations and an interview is a prime example. How will you answer a question like “What are your salary expectations”? A difficult one if you don’t know whether you are over or under selling yourself. Figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are – you need to be able to say what you’re good at and what you’re not so good at. But, do remember to add how you have overcome this weakness using an example e.g. nervous speaking in front of groups = attended a course on PowerPoint presentations/public speaking and am now much better at it!

5. Your reasons for wanting the job

Ask yourself why you want this job because you’ll likely be asked this on the day. Only you know the answer and you need to make it a good one. Just because you need a job isn’t a good enough reason for someone to hire you. Ask yourself what you actually know about the company. Are you interested in a long-term career or is this simply a stopgap for you? They might ask you where you see yourself in 6 months’ or 5 years’ time – how will you answer this. Easy if you see yourself long-term with the company, but not so easy to answer if you don’t.

6. Dress Code

To add to our recent article, “Got an Interview, What to Wear, What to Wear” make sure that you dress professionally. Casual is not good and gives the wrong impression. Of course, this will entirely depend on what type of job you are applying for, but for a professional career position, get it right and buy that killer suit.

7. Be enthusiastic!

You’ve been invited for interview because they believe you can do the job. It’s just down to you on the day to show that you can do it better than anyone else they might be interviewing. Even if you don’t tick all the boxes for the job criteria, I’ll bet you have something just as good or even better to offer. The interview panel don’t know this yet, so you have to tell them. Don’t be negative about a past (or present) employer, working conditions etc., as this will give a really bad impression. Try to show that you are flexible and willing to take on responsibility.

8. Timing is critical

Whatever happens don’t be late!  Arrive 10 minutes before – and if you’re too early then take a walk around the block.  Just don’t leave it until 5 minutes before the interview is due to start, because the interview room might be some distance away from the reception area you have reported to. You don’t want to hurried up 3 flights of stairs and arrive out of breath and stressed.

9. No coffee stains please…

Sometimes, you might be required to take your references with you, so make sure you have these ready and in good condition in a folder. Don’t expect an interviewer to be impressed if you hand over evidence of your capabilities with coffee mug rings as your personal logo.

10. The evening before the interview

I’m not going to say try to relax the evening before because you won’t. If you really want the job you’ll be pretty nervous. That’s natural – and that’s the best advice anyone can give, to just be natural and be yourself. That’s the person they’re looking for. Good Luck!

Bauty Guidelines For Men

Beauty Guidelines for Men:

Stop Using All-purpose soap

Male have roughly 15% oilier skin than women which significantly larger the pores. Dirt and other harmful agents easily penetrate in the skin through such large pores and damage your skin. So don’t be dirtier. For any type of skin, deep cleansing is much important. For that you should keep pores clear with gentle cleanser only. Clean the skin pores with Noxzema. Mind that for cleansing the skin, never use any type of soap (specially “all- purpose” antibacterial soap), as it makes your skin dry. Eczema and irritation would be caused due to dry skin. Use such a mild cleanser which makes your skin healthy and provides a young look along with cleansing. Try to prefer natural cleanser if possible.

Use SPF umbrella
Compared to women, men have to perform more work outside the home. Basically, men need more protection against drastic ultra violet rays of sun. Make habit to apply sunscreen with SPF-30 every day for skin protection. Regular application of sunscreen reduces risk of melanoma by 50 percent. As a result, your skin tone remains perfectly at its origin level.

Conditioner for hair protection
Take care of your gray hair which shows you older than you are. For that, you can use Men's hair color creams. For healthy and shiny hair looking, keep conditioning regularly. Also you can try leave-in conditioner to protect your hair color from fading or changing in the sun during summer days. Hot oil treatment makes your hair shiny and pleasant to touch.

Night wash

Be habitual to night wash regularly, which helps you to remove substance that can build up in the pores and cause acne afterwards. Hair styling products like men's hair gels and sculpting pastes can cause Pomade acne. Sometimes, these products lead to breakouts on the face. Therefore washing the product out of your hair and from your face is the only way.

Exfoliating

As men’s skin is hard, to rouse cellular turnover; men need to exfoliating facial masks and cleansers. This process helps to remove dead cells on the surface of the skin. Also try professional facial as another option. You should buy benzoate clay which is a superb base for nearly all male skin.

Shaving

Normally, man’s beauty schedule is start with shaving. But remember that don’t shave if you just wake up. For closer shave, give enough time to your facial skin for ‘wake up’ a bit. Try to prefer cream-based facial cleanser in place of a shave gel. Their creamy consistency makes your shave smooth. As gel-based products contain more alcohol, they increases drying and irritation of the skin.

Moisturizer

Shaving makes men's faces dry and flaky. Applying moisturizer daily nourishes your skin in well manner. To make it daily routine, keep moisturizer (if it contain SPF it is added bonus) bottle right outside the shower. Just buffing your face with plain sugar in the shower gives relief from sprinkle. Also astringents and toners with alpha hydroxy or glycolic acids are toning the face greatly.

Floss

Though you are handsome, bad breath downs your personality badly. Daily flossing and twice daily brushing provides better breath with brighter teeth as well as your gums becoming puffy, inflamed and red.

Complete beauty

Beauty is not limited to face only, but grooming of hands and feet is also equally important. No doubt women have more dry, cracked or irritated feet compared to men. Being safe in shoe protection, doesn’t mean that men haven’t any need to remove dead skin that build up on the heels. Any type of dead skin largely supplies odor-causing bacteria. So, you can easily remove it with pumice stone. Daily moisturize your hands and nails. Avoid hangnails infection by regular clipping.

Clothing

To reduce chances of stains in hot and humid weather, prefer to wear cotton light color clothes. Shave your under arm hair occasionally to get rid from drastic body odor and stains.

Fitness

  • As men word reflects image of person with stomach in, shoulders back, chest out, and head up, slouching is curse for men’s impression.
  • Beauty always follows healthiness via exercise and perfect diet. Daily exercise boosts oxygen supply to the tissues as well as keeps skin healthy and looking young. It promotes functioning of the vessel which lessens early aging and fine lines. Exercise boosts your confidence level by making muscular and well-shaped body.
  • To maintain glowing and healthy skin, eat fruits and vegetables which supply the essential vitamins and minerals to the skin .
  • Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking; as it dehydrates the skin and gives pale look to the skin. It also endorses early aging.

Cosmetics

  • Soft lips are not women’s monopoly. Most of men feel embraced with crashes on lips. To remove any dead skin of lips, apply a liquid lip balm then exfoliate it by running a toothbrush over them.
  • Too shiny skin doesn't mean healthy, just give greasy look. With blotting papers, absorb excess oils.
  • With tweezers pluck hair from the unibrow area, then brush the brows straight up and trim any unruly hairs. For ideal shape of brow, you should visit brow professional.

Others

  • Wear dress with proper ironing.
  • Regular trim unwanted hair of the body. Also trim the stray brows.
  • Choose perfume according to your mood and purpose.

How to be a successful corporate employee

Being a successful employee is similar to running a sole proprietorship with low risk and limited customers. You listen around for what your primary customers (leadership) wants to get out of you. Then, you learn and actually get yourself to accomplish the requested tasks. Here are tips to be more successful in the work place.

Steps

Be a Good Employee Step 01.jpg
Behave professionally. This is a business, not a playground. People talk, and workers know the difference between a person who is fun to work with and a person who is always fooling around. Fun means a good personality, a joke or two, and a smile. Fooling around is wasting your time and that of others, being frequently off-task, and often being seen standing in the workspace of others instead of in your own.

being seen standing in the workspace of others instead of in your own.
Ad
Be a Good Employee Step 02.jpg
Learn to take criticism gracefully. It will provide you with valuable ideas about what people expect from you, any weak areas, and what you need to work on first. If a boss or coworker criticizes you in a way that hurts or angers you, wait until you cool/calm down and ask them if you can talk with them. Tell them how you felt, but tell them that you would like to fix the issue and want them to talk with you about what needs to be changed.
  1. Be a Good Employee Step 03.jpgLearn to do your job, and do it well. Whether it's menial and tedious, or tough and high-paying, learn how to do the job, regardless of how difficult you think it might be. Salary is most commonly based upon years of experience, your ability to do your job, tenure with the company, and your educational background. If you don't know how to do something, go find out; don't make excuses for why you didn't do it.
  2. Be a Good Employee Step 04.jpg
Cultivate good relationships with the people in your organization;they are the experts in their departments. Treat all co-workers with courtesy, respect, and kindness because they hold more power than you realize, and your reputation with them matters. Do not hang out with other employees who mistreat, disrespect, or talk down to others.
  3. Be a Good Employee Step 05.jpg
When you get the opportunity to learn a new skill, receive training for a different activity, or take a study course paid for by your employer--do it! Cross-training, new skill sets, and further education show that you are intelligent and value life-long learning. If push comes to shove, and people are let go, you stand a better chance of being retained than those who can only do one thing.
  4. Be a Good Employee Step 06.jpg
Maintain a clean job performance record. Do a good job, show up on time, keep a good attendance history. When you find out someone has been let go, you often find out later that there were underlying circumstances that led to their dismissal--including frequent absences, missed deadlines, reprimands for unprofessional behavior, or too many customer complaints. If you don't do that, you don't have room to negotiate.
  5. Be a Good Employee Step 07.jpg
Be on time. Always arrive early. Be at least 15 minutes early every day. That way, if you are running late, you will be on time. If you have to park far away, you will walk in and still not be late. If your client is early, you will be there to greet him or her, and not leave someone waiting for you - even if you arrive on time.
  6. Be a Good Employee Step 08.jpg
Ask your supervisor what the expectations for outcome are. This will immediately make you stand out from 95% of the other employees. Mean what you ask and follow through on your promises.
  7. Be a Good Employee Step 09.jpg
Be part of the solutions. Quit whining about what's wrong and start being vocal about what's right! A positive attitude goes a long way with many supervisors. When you go to the boss with a problem, go with at least one suggestion in mind for a solution. Even if the boss doesn't take your suggestion, you will look like a problem-solver, not a complainer. Your boss has their own private lives to leave at the door, so do you. If you keep piling on the emotional baggage, then your boss may see that you can't balance your personal life from your work life. They will not approach you when they want to ask employees about perhaps open door advice when it comes to work related group efforts.
  8. Be a Good Employee Step 10 Version 2.jpg
Don't drag your feet. We mean this in a literal way. Pick your feet up and walk proud, and get right to your work - don't procrastinate or let things drag up to the deadline, and then jump in to get it done in a fast flurry at the end. It makes your boss crazy. Gain a reputation for having your act together more so than the majority of people.
  9. Be a Good Employee Step 11 Version 2.jpg
Be quiet and work. Quit gossiping and get to work. Your employer is not paying you to gossip. Of course, you want to establish a good rapport with your co-workers, and a little chatting is inevitable and desirable. But spending a half hour regaling your co-workers with your previous evening's adventures will not make your boss love you. When one of you is talking a lot, two of you are not working a lot. Note: if your boss walks by and two of you are talking, no big deal, but wrap up the conversation so that the boss won't see the same sight on her way back. The same goes for a group of you. If you are part of a group who is talking when the boss walks by, discreetly excuse yourself to return to your area after a few seconds. If your boss hears that you are gossiping behind their backs or planning a secret meeting to approach your boss is not the solution. This may just make you look like a instigator or conspirer.
  10. Be a Good Employee Step 12 Version 2.jpg
Always be productive. Don't let paper sit on your desk for days on end. Get the work done and move on to the next thing as quickly as possible.
  11. Be a Good Employee Step 13 Version 2.jpg
    Dress appropriately for your job.
  12. Be a Good Employee Step 14 Version 2.jpg
Hold your head high and be confident. A calm, assured energy will take you much farther than carrying yourself in a hunched up ball.
  13. Be a Good Employee Step 15 Version 2.jpgVolunteer or be active in projects to get the job done. Don't worry about who gets credit - your boss knows much more than you think. Be a team player. In addition, volunteering allows you to choose the part you will play. If you don't choose, chances are it will be chosen for you. Either way, you'll be responsible for some facet, so be one of the first to step forward when you can.
  14. Be a Good Employee Step 16 Version 2.jpg
Don't spend a lot of time on personal phone calls. Work is for work. Keep cell phones in your locker and limit personal calls on work phones to emergencies.
  15. Be a Good Employee Step 17 Version 2.jpgUse the last 15-20 minutes of your shift. People notice who runs to the clock out stations prior to shift end. One of the best uses of this time is to organize your work space for tomorrow. Take a moment to put away loose papers, sweep, wipe down surfaces, and locate things you'll need.
  16. Be a Good Employee Step 18 Version 2.jpgOffer junior employees guidance and encouragement. Offer to show them the ropes or offer training tips. Remember how it felt to be the newbie. Be a mentor. If you are not sure someone understood something, be willing to ask if they need assistance. Don't do the work for them, teach them instead. Be careful what you say to new employees; don't air your grievances, frustrations, or interpersonal conflicts. Don't gossip.
  17. Be a Good Employee Step 19 Version 2.jpgAcceptance is the Key. Don't argue a lot, your company's policies is what your boss has to follow. So if you found something wrong, try to understand your boss's perspective, but without arguing. Use a good and quiet way to understand the problem point. You may just realize that things happen for a reason and not necessarily for a season. Policies are implemented for reasons of the good of the whole.
  18. Be a Good Employee Step 20 Version 2.jpg
Be appreciative, always say thank you whenever a boss or a co worker does something good to you, it will always motivate them to do more good to you
